Seven Rules On How To Clean A Wetsuit

By Christine Stewart

Buying a wetsuit costs a lot of money. Therefore, you need to take care of it so that it stays for a long time without getting spoiled. One of the ways you can do this is by ensuring that it is cleaned and managed in the right way. These clothes are not washed in the same way regular garments are washed. This is because they are sensitive, and they can quickly get spoiled if poorly washed. This article discusses some of the rules on how to clean a wetsuit.

Rinse the suit immediately after you have surfed. Every time that you surf, you should rinse the suit. You should rinse the suit with clean, cold water. The water should also be fresh water. You should ensure that you allow water to go through the inside of the suit. By rinsing the suit immediately after use allows you to get rid of any element that may be stuck on the suit.

The material that makes a lot of these suits is stretchy. After you have rinsed the suit, you should allow it to dry. To dry the suit, make sure that you fold it at the waist and put it on a heavy hanger that can contain the weight of the suit. If you fail to adhere to this, and hang it by the shoulders, the suit will stretch.

It is good that you take your suit to commercial cleaners for cleaning once in a while. These cleaners remove dirt as well as disinfect your suit. When such is done, the probability of getting sick because of disease-causing germs in water is reduced. Also, salt, organic remains, and chlorine are removed by these cleaners.

The excess sun is harmful to the suit. Therefore, do not dry your suits when it is very hot. You can dry your suit in the evening when the sun is mild. Ultraviolet rays affect the flexibility of the suit; they make the suit not stretch as it is supposed to. They also make the suit tear easily and age at a fast rate.

Almost every suit has a zipper. The more you use the suit, the higher the chances that it will get stuck at one point. Chlorine and salt can lead to the corrosion of the teeth of the zipper. So to ensure that the sipper is working effectively, try as much as possible to rinse the suit after use. Also, you should use a zipper lubricant to make it move with ease.

Some of these suits smell bad, primarily when they are used in salty water. To remove the bad odor, rinse the suit in water which has fabric softener. The fabric softener will remove the bad smell as well as give the suit a pleasant smell. However, never use perfumes on your suit as it may affect other swimmers or suffers.

Finally, avoid using bleach and any harsh chemical. If you use these elements, it can cause the suit to age fast. Also avoid using heat on the suit. For instance, you should never iron the suit because it will get damaged. If you enjoy your suit, then you need to follow the instructions provided when you are cleaning it.
